You come home to find that your roommate drank your last beer. When confronted, he says he didn't do it. He's a liar. If you're really mad, you call him on it and it escalates to some shouting. Or you might just say "whatever" and start looking for a new apartment. Either way, that's the end of it for the vast majority of us.

Unless you're a politician.

Then the dialog might continue like this; "I did not take your beer. In fact your alcohol problem has led you to steal from the other roommates.

"I've asked the others to sign a petition to get the landlord to throw you out for stealing beer from Steve, who we know is a disadvantaged person of color. Justice demands it."
It is that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court as an orphan.

Chutzpa, as defined by Leo Rosten

We saw this week Susan Rice calling out the Trump White House's falsehoods. Trump makes wild claims for dramatic effect with little regard for accuracy. But seriously, who is Susan Rice to be the Voice of Truth? In a normal world, once one has been caught lying, one should slink away nursing what's left of their damaged credibility.

You may recall that Rice worked the Sunday morning talk show circuit spinning the Benghazi terrorist attack as the result of a YouTube video.

In the same vein, here's Nancy Pelosi demonstrating either stunning lack of self awareness or that she has balls the size of meteors.
“We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,” is what Pelosi said March 9, 2010 to the National Association of Counties.

“Members must not be asked to vote on this legislation before the CBO and the Joint Committee on Taxation have answered the following questions about your legislation in 2018 and 2019, over the 10-year budget window, and in the decade after: How will this bill measure up to the Affordable Care Act and current Medicaid law on coverage, quality, and cost? And how will it impact Medicare solvency?”

Where is the little boy who exclaims that the emperor has no clothes? Hell, I'd settle for Mugatu.

We are so degraded as a society that we not only let the issue pass, if the liar says what we want to hear we buy into it and re-Tweet it, post it to Facebook and repeat it like a parrot. This unmitigated gall is the norm in politics and it makes us all poorer living in a society where it is considered acceptable.
