So many recent tragedies in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico and Vegas have made one thing abundantly clear. American’s give with their hearts and their wallets. We do not let our fellow countrymen suffer without giving of our time and our hard-earned cash.
However, not all charities are created equally and it seems that there are more and more politically motivated fundraisers that use the tragedy at hand to increase their mailing lists or divert funds to their pet causes.
During Hurricane Harvey Far Left provocateur Linda Sarsour directed funds to a pet political activism group in Houston. This group was relatively new, employed professional activists and had no experience in crisis management or disaster services.
Now Progressive darling Elizabeth Warren gets in on the act for Puerto Rico.
If you go to the link, it looks legit enough. You can select from a number of charities, several with recognizable branding. So then you look up AB Charities and find out the charities will pay 3.95% of donations to the platform. And oddly there is no real information about the organization. There a blog and contact form. That’s it.
Digging a little deeper, this appears to be a subsidiary of Act Blue, a progressive fundraising platform established in 2004 to raise money from small donors. It has been quite effective raising nearly $2 billion dollars and amassing the personal and banking information of over 4 million Democrat donors.
So, there it is. This is why Elizabeth Warren wants you to make your charitable donation through Act Blue. They are trying to expand their database through raising funds for a tragedy. I find this to be a sleazy and dishonest way to politicize a tragedy.
If you want to donate, donate directly to the charity of your choice, avoid the 3.95% fee on the charity and avoid endless fundraising emails from candidates and other organizations. I highly recommend Charity Navigator. They rate charities using the organization’s reported financial information and provide a range of organizations for you to contribute to based on your preferences.
As our site continues to grow, we will be incorporating charitable giving into our content. What we will never do is politicize an event by making it flow through an organization that is NOT rated by Charity Navigator or verified by other means. Tragedies are not a time to politicize. They are a time for all Americans to come together and do what we do best, give of ourselves and share the abundance we enjoy living in the most fantastic country on earth.
