House of the Dragon wins over Rings of Power & it’s not even close.

Do yourself a favor and start watching HBO’s House of the Dragon. There’s still one episode left this season and if you’ve been watching Amazon’s Rings of Power, you probably need a show to get the taste of Rings out of your system. House of the Dragon is so much better than Rings of Power that its embarrassing at this point. It’s like watching a college football team taking on a group of Pee Wee kids. While they are fundamentally playing the same game, one side is just going to get walloped.

Both House of the Dragon and Rings are set in the world of fantasy. Both shows are centered around strong female leads. That’s where the similarities end. House of Dragon has characters I care about. Rings doesn’t. House of the Dragon did a wonderful job laying out the rules, backstory and a strong case for why I should care. Rings did not. And while House of the Dragon is complex with its houses and politics, they make everything quite clear for the viewer. And it’s all done without having horrible dialogue. The writer of House have chosen to show and not tell. Rings? Not so much.

Now on to the juiciest tidbit, House of the Dragon hasn’t peaked yet. They have another episode to go! Rings is done. House of the Dragon has all the momentum. Last night’s episode was probably my favorite so far. It just keeps getting better. I found myself practically cheering from the couch towards the end of the episode when a character had an epic moment. That’s all I’ll say. No spoilers today. But it just goes to show once again. When you earn an action from a character and things we’ve seen happen to them affect their decisions, their actions pay off in huge dividends. So, start watching House of the Dragon. It’s worth it.
