1 clove garlic minced

2 cup sliced mushrooms

1 c frozen or fresh peas

1/2 cup red wine (if you don’t use wine increase broth or water to 1 cup)

1/2 cup broth or water

splash Worcestershire (optional but recommend)

2 tbs heavy cream (optional)

salt and pepper to taste

Make mashed potatoes, boil potatoes until fork tender, drain. use a food mill, ricer (for smooth and creamy potatoes) or old fashioned potato masher. Add butter and sour cream, season with salt and pepper to taste.

Coat skillet with olive oil and heat on medium high. Add the carrot and onion with a pinch of salt, saute until softened, add the mushrooms and continue to saute until all the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized, now add the minced garlic and continue to saute until softened. Add the tomato paste mixing with the meat, continue cooking for another minute or two, add the flour and stir to combine cooking for a minute or two. Add the wine and water or broth, heavy cream (if using it), splash of Worcestershire and season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook until sauce thickens, add the peas, remove from heat and set aside. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Spread mashed potatoes on top of meat mixture, run a fork on top making lines (this will crisp nicely) bake for 30-45 minutes. If top is not browned place under boiler until sufficiently browned. Let sit for about 15 minutes before serving. Tip: It tastes even better the next day leftovers can be reheated
