Let’s just say I found this clip more than a little concerning. What do we really know about Bill Gates’ Apeel “organic” coating? I’m not a scientist, but this coating seems dubious at best. The idea of produce lasting longer on shelves has its merits, but what’s the cost? And I’m talking about health costs. What is this Apeel? What are the long-term effects? Do we have that info? Because I tell you right now, I don’t want to be a part of the control group. Count me out. Humanity has a long and storied history of ‘improvements’ on food that have done massive amounts of damage. So, I’m out of the Apeel game.
Do we really need Apeel? Do we need a coating that you can’t wash off? Feels like we survived for tens of thousands of years without it. I’m confident there was a good system in place. So again, I’m out.
Lastly, let’s talk about the number of corporations that are practically running the food production market. It’s a much smaller number than anyone should be comfortable with. Eight? That’s not going to work for me. We need more farms. More choices. That’s how all of this is supposed to work. As they shut down small farm after small farm and big corporations take over you have to wonder about what in the heck is going on? If all eight corporations decide to use Apeel, we don’t have a choice anymore. And what do we really know about Bill Gates’ Apeel “Organic” coating? See? We brought it full circle.
