Hiding Our Talents
Step Right Up and Tackle Imposter Syndrome: It’s Showtime, Folks!
Ever felt like a backstage hand in the show of your own life, secretly controlling the curtains because you’re too worried to take center stage? Well, join the club! It’s called Imposter Syndrome, and it’s the not-so-exclusive club that millions of us belong to, often without even knowing it. Yep, you’re not alone in feeling like a fraud in your own success story.
What’s Imposter Syndrome, You Ask?
Imagine you’ve just won an award. Instead of feeling like you nailed it, you’re busy worrying they’re going to find out you’re more of a one-hit-wonder than a seasoned pro. That’s imposter syndrome in a nutshell—feeling like a phony who’s about to be busted, even though you’re genuinely talented.
Why We Play Hide and Seek With Our Talents
So, why do we hide our brilliance under a bushel? Fear of failure, fear of the spotlight, or maybe just because no one likes to be the first to hit the dance floor. Whatever the reason, we tend to keep our cool stuff to ourselves.
Good News: Beating Imposter Syndrome Can Be a Hoot!
Here’s a fun toolbox to kick those imposter blues to the curb and strut your stuff with confidence:
1. Give Yourself a Pep Talk
Ever talk to yourself in the mirror? Time to start. Give yourself a daily “You’re awesome” speech. It feels weird, but it works.
2. Turn Your Life Into a Brag Book
Keep a log of everything you do well. Big or small, write it down. Then, when you’re feeling down, read it and remind yourself you’re pretty amazing.
3. Get By with a Little Help From Your Friends
Chat it up with pals or colleagues. Chances are, they’ve felt like imposters too. Nothing like a shared laugh over how you both thought you’d be discovered as frauds at any moment.
4. Throw a Failure Party
Yep, you heard that right. Celebrate your mess-ups and missteps. They’re proof you’re trying, and that’s half the battle.
5. Ask for Feedback Like You Mean It
Instead of cringing at criticism, seek it out. It’s like choosing to ride the rollercoaster instead of being dragged onto it. You might even start to enjoy the ride!
6. Treat Yo’ Self
Be as kind to yourself as you are to your best friend. Messed up? That’s okay. Tomorrow is another day.
Lights, Camera, Action!
It’s time to step into the spotlight. Imagine being the director of your own life movie where you’re the star, not just the behind-the-scenes genius. Embrace your talents, share them without a second thought, and watch as the world applauds not just your successes but your genuine, awesome self.
Curtain Call
So, kick imposter syndrome to the curb and take your bow. Remember, the world’s a stage, and you’re meant to be more than just a stagehand in your own life. Let’s light up that marquee with your name on it—because you’ve earned it, superstar!

Most of us definitely don’t give ourselves the credit we deserve – I know I fall into that category. Thanks for the reminder Lori Anne!!
Carla – that’s sometimes reflective on our culture influence. The good news is everything starts with awareness. Then we can choose to work on changing our thoughts allowing ourselves to be proud and celebrate our successes. At LDC Strategies. We love to celebrate our little everyday successes ! How do you celebrate your weekly small wins? – Coach Lori Anne on
I was thinking about this earlier today – the wins are great and I’ll tell my friends and it feels good…. but when people beat you down and it happens often at work that’s hard to deal with. I’ve got to learn not to take things so personally, it’s hard. Nowadays I’m trying my best to focus on healthy living, exercising, being creative and having fun doing it!
