Here’s a highlight reel from IREX 2022. Japan’s largest robot exhibition. Boy oh boy did these robot makers have some crazy new gadgets to show off. There are tons of these things. All designed for every imaginable job. Healthcare, heavy lifting, construction. And we weren’t surprised at all the personality they were infused with. From the adorable transforming Gazelle to the super friendly looking “Friend’ robot. Oh, my goodness! So cute! Until you picture then with guns. Then it all goes downhill rather quickly. Then it all takes on a far more sinister feel. I am not into this robot thing at all. You shouldn’t be either. And to all the peeps who think I’m just being paranoid: I don’t care. Just like a robot that’s programed to lift a box or lift a person’s head off their shoulders. I don’t care what you think.
Until we can be guaranteed that every single robot is built with ‘do humans no harm’ laws of robotics, I’m going to continue to shit all over these things. It simply isn’t worth the risk. Someone will weaponize them. You have to think they already have! And don’t get me started on scientific ‘oopsies’. Whoops, killer bees are loose. Whoops here’s some Covid (probably not an oopsie but you see my point) I go full Jurassic Park mode on robots: Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.
