The New Purple M&M is a start. We ALL deserve to be represented by a delicious candy treat! The time is now! (video)

Sadly, the introduction of the purple M&M was done in predictable, boring and cowardly way. Mars candy the makers of M&Ms have introduced a new purple candy to the M&M cast of ‘characters’ and they should have shouted the news from the rooftops! First, let’s take a look at the press release and then move on to some questions. Okay. Here’s a quote: “Designed to represent acceptance and inclusivity, our newest member is known for her earnest self-expression. Keen self-awareness, authenticity and confidence are the driving forces behind Purple’s charm and quirky nature.”

Represent acceptance and inclusivity… of what? Acceptance of whom? Who is M&Ms not including? Is some group not included? We’ll need some clarity on this one. What are they talking about?

Here’s more: “Mars is thrilled to debut the newest member of the M&M’S cast of characters to the world. There is so much about our new spokescandy that people can relate to and appreciate, including her willingness to embrace her true self – our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique,” said Jane Hwang, Global Vice President at Mars Wrigley.

Embrace her true self? Again, we’re confused. What are you trying to say Jane Hwang? ‘…her willingness to embrace her true self’… Still need some clarity on this. Are they talking about Trans people? Is that what they’re afraid to say? If you made a trans m&m candy, just say it. Be loud. Be proud of what you’ve spent so much time and energy on. We just have few suggestions beyond the need for clarity on the new purple. You’ll need way more representative candy groups.

Where is the m&m for the black community? Could you please point him or her out? We also feel Latinos should be represented as well. White folks can wait, they already have white chocolate, so it seems like they’re covered for now. Back to the groups that need representation: Is there a gay one? If so, what color is that? Would be helpful to know. Also, the Puerto Ricans and native Americans might feel left out so if you could do one for them that’d be swell. Not trying to leave anyone out. This list will need to be adjusted moving forward. And please, please, please be clearer with the characters. The public should be absolutely certain which group they are supporting when they eat the candy. Thank you in advance.
