My Favorite Picks from the New “Awesome Mix”

I haven’t gotten a chance to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 yet, but whatever you think about the current state of the MCU, the Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix soundtracks are still great.

I was able to check out the newest collection and, like the past ones, it had some worthy memory-triggering sounds. This third collection contains music from at least four decades of cool sounds, since Star-Lord now has access to a newer music player.

Here are some of my personal favorites, if you haven’t gotten to check it out yet:

“This Is The Day” from The The

My dad gave me a $199 Casio practice keyboard for college, and I used to try to mix the simple back beat with the melody on this great chill song from 1983. Still can’t help singing along when I hear in on the radio.

“San Francisco” from The Mowgli’s

This is a one of the recent on the soundtrack, and first came out ten years ago. It’s simply a happy hippie feel good tune, and good-vibe emitter.

“Koinu no Carnival” by EHAMIC

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but using the sounds of Japanese pop, electronica artist EHAMIC’s frenzied take on Chopin’s “Minute Waltz” from his 2018 “ClassicaLoid” is such a cool shoutout to the J-Pop and anime fans out there. Plus, it’s all over the place and fun.

“We Care A Lot” by Faith No More

I used to do some serious head-banging whenever Faith No More was played…and I still have the long hair for it, thank you very much. I always think of this song whenever I see some smarmy virtue signaling on social media.

“In the Meantime” by Spacehog

This came out right in the middle of the 90s, when alternative, indie and pop punk sounds were becoming a little more recognized. This one is just really gives off that straight forward cool rock that still sounds fresh.

Whether you are planning to watch Star-Lord and his crew wrap up their misadventures, or you just want to check out the soundtrack, there is more than likely something on this latest Awesome Mix retro trip you’ll enjoy.
