Eight years ago, four guys from Canada released this catchy bluegrass song of love and murder, and it racked up hundreds of millions of views.
The Dead South came out of Regina Saskatchewan in 2012, and have played venues of all sizes all over the world ever since. Their fanbase “Good Company” has even taken to dressing like the band for live shows.
It’s not surprising, as their sound and stage presence is just plain terrific, and they deliver a mix of original music as well as their versions of both familiar folk and modern rock. Their latest cover is a mesmerizingly beautiful version of Concrete Blonde’s “Joey”:
They brought their own style to “You Are My Sunshine” managing to make it seem both sinister and peaceful. They can also hit songs like “This Little Light of Mine” head on with flawless harmonies, even during the COVID house concert phase everyone was doing.
It’s their original songs that really stand out, so enjoy some of the great bluegrass like only The Dead South can on this week’s Sunday Jams:
