After watching Frankenstein from Guillermo del Toro last night on Netflix, I have some advice for Hollywood: Lock up a deal with Guillermo. His movie Frankenstein was an absolute winner. It’s the kind of movie that Hollywood needs if they want to stay in the movie business.
I won’t include any spoilers, if you haven’t seen it yet. I will let you know that the movie was a spectacle. It looked like a movie. The script was sharp and doesn’t treat the viewer like a third grader. All of the movie worked, from the art direction to the fine performances of the entire cast. It’s a really good movie. And it’s Frankenstein. How many adaptations of this thing have we seen already? Tons. Still Guillermo del Toro just knocked it out of the park. That’s a big deal.
If I’m a studio exec, I’m trying to lock up Guillermo into a multi-picture deal today. Hollywood needs good talent. And Guillermo del Toro just showed what he’s all about with a killer version of Frankenstein.
