Before I get into the gristle that was this enlightening and in depth interview on The Dean Obeidallah Show on Sirius XM, let me pause to remind everyone exactly who Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia is.
Hank Johnson is not what anyone would describe as an exciting wordsmith in Congress. In fact, he is so dull and boring that I would periodically check his pulse mid interview just to confirm a few things. When Hank is not actively serving as a stronger sleep aid than Ambien or counting sheep, he occasionally says remarkably dumb things in Congress.
Here is one of his greatest hits for reference
But Hank is not just a congressional expert in oceanology and geology with the intellectual rigor of about a third grade book report. No, Hank is also reportedly a talented musician and singer. I am told this. I have yet to see any convincing evidence of it. Still, here is his infamous “Hey Trump” song based on Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” which only makes the irony and the sadness that much stronger
With that refresher out of the way, let us now examine Hank Johnson the political thinker. Please Ignore the sad picture of Jimi Hendrix

The Interview That Could Put Coffee To Sleep
My favorite moment from this latest interview on The Dean Obeidallah Show was when Hank Johnson referred to the United States of America as “The Great Satan”
That is correct. The Great Satan.
Was that enlightening? Was that what you want to hear from a sitting member of Congress? Was that the wisdom you were hoping for from an elected representative of the American people?
“The Great Satan” is the exact phrase used by the Ayatollah of Iran and Islamist extremist movements right before they chant “Death to America.” And here we have a United States congressman repeating it casually on satellite radio, and by casually I mean more in a manner that would induce a coma, but still.
What is truly remarkable is that instead of being filled with rage watching this interview, I actually fell asleep. Twice. I had already consumed three cups of coffee before pressing play. That should tell you everything you need to know about the raw hypnotic power of a Hank Johnson interview.
This Was Not A Joke Or A Misquote
Before anyone tries to rescue Hank with the usual defenses, let us be clear about what he actually said.
His direct quote was
“That moniker was entirely accurate. The Great Satan. That is what we have become in this country.” – Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga)
So no, it was not tongue in cheek. It was not a misstatement. It was not another Guam moment. It was a sitting congressman deliberately calling the United States of America “The Great Satan” to score political points.
An elected official. A lawyer (somehow). An American. Using the language of Islamist extremism to describe his own country.
The Democrat Message In One Sentence
I have said this a million times and I will say it a million more. The modern Democratic Party has absolutely no message beyond one shallow talking point.
“Orange Man Bad”
They do not care enough about the country to offer serious insight. They do not offer solutions. They do not engage in meaningful critique. Instead they lash out at the nation itself and call it evil to fill the hollow space where leadership and responsibility used to live.
The same elected officials who casually label conservatives and President Trump as Hitler now parrot the exact words used by Islamic extremists who openly call for the destruction of the United States. That is not coincidence. That is ideological rot.
Calling Your Own Country The Villain
This was not a moment of clarity. This was not bravery. This was not truth telling.
This was an American congressman publicly adopting, again, the propaganda language of our enemies.
Oh, What a time to be alive? Right?
At this point, I may just start playing Hank Johnson interviews on repeat at night. At least sleep is better than being audibly waterboarded by his musical prowess.
Shaun, When I saw your post I started to laugh because Hank Johnson has made his name for all the wrong ,mostly hilarious reasons. Starting with his statement about Guam which was easily one of most insane things ever uttered in the House.
I would like to know ,who thought it was a good idea to post the video of “Hey Trump”. His staff must really hate him. It’s bad enough he ruined a Hendrix classic, but he also desecrated a $3,000 Stevie Ray Vaughn collection guitar. I was appalled. RIP Stevie and Jimi.
The Great Satan remark is something right out of the liberal playbook. They’ve pretty much beaten every other slur and vile remark to death,so it’s officially hit rock bottom. It’s what you expect from a party with no message, useful ideas or moral compass. Johnson is just one of their useful idiots, like a trained poodle, who will bark and prance when he’s told to appease the extreme left. I truly believe no one takes Johnson seriously because he has the personality of a Kraft cheese single with the plastic on,but knowing he is legitimate member of Congress is way more frightening. Really enjoyed your article. A great job Shaun.
Hey Lynne, thank you for your kind words. I agree, Hank somehow is still hanging around despite all the evidence about why he shouldn’t be. While I agree it is out of the left playbook, I am shocked he didn’t somehow screw it up in a very Hank Johnson Way….”America…..is the Great Santa” or something along those lines.
