How Battlefront 2 Did the Impossible and Redeemed Itself

Since Battlefront 2 is going to be free for Playstation Plus members in June, let’s go over how Battlefront 2 did the impossible and redeemed itself.

In 2017, the game launched. It was incredibly hyped up, and it looked like it was going to be an incredible Star Wars experience. The fact that it had a campaign from the perspective of the Empire was very exciting, along with a bunch of iconic planets and characters from all across the Star Wars franchise. This had people really excited for this game. No one thought that this game could fail.

The loot boxes. On the day of it release people were furious with EA because of the loot boxes. The loot boxes made the game pay to win. If you spent enough money you could get the best gear in the game and become unstoppable. Millions of fans had left the game feeling betrayed and let down by what was supposed to be the ultimate Star Wars game. During the first 6 months after the game’s release, it seemed like nothing was happening; no new content to make up for one of the worst video game launches in history.

Good things started to happen. DICE had to rework the entire progression system. They got rid of the pay to win mechanics that EA had implemented and made loot boxes only give cosmetic items. It was announced that General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the planet Geonosis were coming soon in free DLC. Soon after, Anakin Skywalker and Count Dooku were also announced. This was the reveal that the fans had been waiting for. The hype over the Clone Wars content brought a lot of people back to the game. It was still a slow process but DICE was steadily bringing this game back from the grave. When General Grievous was released, a lot of fans were happy. It had been the first time a character had been added in almost a year. This was a big step in the right direction. And nearly a month later, Battlefront 2 took a massive leap in the right direction when they released Obi-Wan Kenobi and the planet Geonosis. It completely blew people away. The fact that they had the same voice actors from The Clone Wars TV show gave it that little extra pizazz that the game needed. Within about a year, DICE finally had Battlefront 2 back on track after it’s really rough start. It got even better when Anakin Skywalker and Count Dooku, along with a huge amount of cosmetic items for heroes and troopers were released. The addition of more content and frequent updates has made a great impact on the game.

The game had a second life. The release of the large scale game mode, Capital Supremacy, was also an amazing addition and gave the game the massive battles that it had been lacking. People who were still under the impression that it was a dead game had realized that it had changed for the better and was basically a whole different game than the one it was at launch. Battlefront 2 has become one of the best Star Wars games, and if you are a PS Plus member I highly recommend playing this game. Even if you aren’t a Star Wars fan, it is still a genuinely good game.
