Instead of using green screen technology where the background has to be added in post production, Disney has opted to use walls of LED screens. This is a giant leap forward for movies. Actors can see the environment they’re in, making their job easier. The lighting is better too.

It’s a new spin on rear screen projection from the old days. The drawback to THAT tech was always the camera angles. If the angles didn’t line up properly the illusion was shattered.

But now, by using software developed for video games, all the cameras can record and project a background from the same angle. Seamless! And so much better for everyone involved.
