‘Attack of the Hollywood Clichés’ on Netflix Has Me Confused

Netflix has new special hosted by Rob Lowe, Attack of the Hollywood Clichés. Okay. Seems fun, right? But after watching the trailer I’m a bit confused.

Why is the Wilhelm scream in there? That’s just fun. And as for a lot of other scenes like “cutting the wire to the time-bomb at just the last second,” are we seriously bitching about dramatic tension? Or are we complaining about time bombs in general? And you know why time bombs are great for a writer? Again, the answer is dramatic tension. Or perhaps you’d enjoy a movie where buildings just spontaneously blow up and you have no idea why.

What are they bitching about? Why is Hannibal Lecter lumped in with the villains? He’s one of the most iconic villains of the last 50 years! Maybe we should be complaining about shitty villains. And if you’re gonna complain about that (which you should) you’re actually pissed at the writer.

All of this comes down to that. So, let’s do a special and call it Attack of the Shitty Writers and the Studio Execs Who Love Them.
