It pains me to say it, but after watching the latest trailer (“Lost Session”) for the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop from Netflix, I can only come to one conclusion: This is going to be horrible. Like insanely horrible.

Every alarm bell in my brain is going off right now. Sounding the warning to not even watch this when it comes out. Maybe I’m wrong. I really hope I am. For real. But holy shit. This was fucking tough to watch and I’m tired of the emotional roller coaster with this show.

You see the casting and you’re delighted! Then you see what they did to Faye Valentine’s character and you’re bummed. Then you hear the music and see the opening and you think there may be hope…then you see this hot garbage and your back to being bummed. Just make it stop. The people making the live-action adaptation just don’t get it. They don’t get anime. They don’t get what makes shows like Cowboy Bebop popular. Lastly, they don’t get Cowboy Bebop itself.

Why would they do this trailer? Whose fucking idea was this? Who thought making fun of the form would be a good idea? “Hey! Let’s make a mini trailer like a shitty 70’s movie!” What in the actual fuck? Yes. Cowboy Bebop wasn’t afraid of a sense of humor and whimsy at times. But that didn’t define the fucking show! Why would you lead with a tongue-in-cheek trailer like this? It tells me everything. They just don’t get it. They lack a basic understanding which will be the show’s undoing.

It’s as if we were expecting a new Batman movie trailer and they handed us funny clips from the Batman TV show with Adam West. It is fucked up on a basic level, the foundation is wrecked.
