This is just too cool. Many moons ago there was a movie called Kelly’s Heroes. You should watch it. It’s fantastic. Star studded with a great story. Anyway, one of the stars was an up-and-coming comedian, Don Rickles and in this clip he’s roasting Clint Eastwood.

The whole thing is cool for a variety of reasons. It’s funny for one. Rickles had that uncanny ability to roast someone, and everyone knew it was all in fun. One hundred percent fun. Zero malice. No one has really done it since. Here’s the other thing: They are on the set of a movie. Someone is filming this. Film is expensive. This isn’t some casual video being shot. Someone came to Rickles and asked him to roast Eastwood. They set up cameras. There was a crew. As a comic? I’m almost certain Rickles did not want to do this. It’s a nightmare scenario. No audience. No big applause breaks. Zero chance of that happening. It’s just him, the star and some camera dudes. That is a recipe for failure. There is really only the chance to look lame and piss off the star of the movie. Rickles did it anyway. What an absolute beast! And he crushes! Don has a great set and Eastwood is dying! Bonus points awarded for going after the director! HA! Rickles. What an absolute champ. He is missed.
