What is going on here? We just watched the trailer for what looks like a really entertaining game: The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna. Looks like a kind of MYST adventure, let’s solve the mystery game. We dig it. Yes, bring me some puzzles to solve. Let’s go! Then I saw more info on the game. Here’s the description: The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is an immersive experience that explores how unfair society can be, both in a direct and realistic manner and with the power of fantasy elements, symbolism and abstract storytelling. What in the actual fuck? Are video game developers really going to try to make this happen? Ranchiuna is probably the 3rd or 4th title we’ve come across recently with a Social Justice theme. Here’s an idea: Let’s not do this. Yes, video games can be learning tools. But guess what else? They can also be vacations from all the political talk and BS that dominates the rest of our waking lives. Give it rest people. Stop trying to teach. Get back to entertainment.
