Here’s the new official trailer for Top Gun: Maverick and I got to say, this one bummed me out. Don’t get me wrong. I dig the original. Hell, I even dug the first trailer for the Top Gun sequel. Then reality hit. Meaning the debacle of the retreat and total disaster of Afghanistan. The U.S got their asses handed to them. Just an international bitch-slap. So, when I see the swagger of Tom Cruise as edgy badass pilot, I’m wondering if we even have those dudes anymore. And then throw in all references to the original Top Gun, it reminds me that once upon a time we DID. American forces WERE badass. Now it’s all nostalgia. Tons of ‘remember when’ vibes. Remember when we didn’t have to worry? Remember when we had peace through strength? Remember when we knew our military was capable of defending territory? I’m not so sure we can do that anymore. That’s fucked up. Fucked up and dangerous for us as a nation. This trailer is a reminder of better days and that legit bums me out. (And for all of you thinking: It’s just a movie… yes, I know. I’m keenly aware. Thanks)
