The midterms have come and gone. Well, actually they haven’t. For most states they have but somehow several places like Alaska and Los Angeles say it way take weeks to figure it out. That’s unacceptable and we all agree it’s bullshit. But let’s move on to a more lighthearted topic: The talking heads on TV and their assessment of ‘what happened in the midterms’. (Dramatic music plays) That’s where the fun stuff is. If watching political brainiacs grasp at straws is fun. It kind of is for me. Just being honest. You always need to be able to step back and laugh.
Let’s break it down: The Republicans expected a Red Tsunami! It didn’t happen. Yes, it looks like the conservatives will gain control of the House if Congress, but it’s far from a tsunami. Now, the same brainiacs who predicted a massive victory are all over TV pontificating about what when wrong and why! And what’s more, they are steadfast in their analysis. HA! Really? LOL! NOW you understand?
TV has to have programming. They need to fill time. I get that. You need to have somebody out there or there’s no show. But maybe on a day when predictions were sooo far off, you get some new faces. Maybe trot out some new voices. Here’s a little inside scoop for ya: You know whose opinion matters after an election? The people who are perceived to have won. That’s the long and short of it. To watch a pundit on a news channel start pointing fingers after a less than successful night is pretty ridiculous in my book. And to hear them get their election postmortem wrong is even crazier! Here’s an idea. A little humility. Just a tad.
