Well, that was that. We watched every episode of HBO’s The Last of Us. Here’s what we thought of season one. The show came close to being something wonderful but couldn’t resist the selfish urge to ‘teach’. The opening episodes were full of promise. Then the showrunners decided that everyone needed to learn something about being gay. Twice, viewers were given episodes that didn’t move the story forward. That’s a lot of real estate to use when you only have 9 episodes total to tell a really big story. 2 shows dedicated to the theme of ‘gay people are just like you!’ We get it. Now can we get back to the story we signed up for? The heartbroken loner and the girl who’s the key to everything making their way across a zombie filled post apocalypse landscape? Thanks. When the show stuck to the actual story, it was good. Really good. But when they took breaks to start teaching? It was a literal waste of time. I can’t sign up for more of that. Count me out on season 2. Knowing what I know about the second Last of Us game factored into the showrunners bait and switch tendencies, I’m out. The Last of Us could have been great. Oh well. Moving on. But if someone could just tell a good story? That’d be great.
