This one drive me nuts for some reason. This morning as I checked Twitter, the first thing that popped up was Kevin Bacon and his wife doing some dance in support of drag. The title of their little piece was “Drag bans are bad karma”. Evidently this video is in response to Tennessee banning drag shows on public property and near schools. Let’s repeat that: On public property and near schools. Got that? So, Kevin Bacon in some way thinks that’s an attack on drag shows. That’s how his post is framed: “Drag bans are bad karma,” Bacon wrote in the caption for his dance video. “Right now, drag performers and the LGBTQIA+ community need our help,” he wrote, appealing to fans for donations to the ACLU’s project “The Drag Defense Fund.” So, in Kevin Bacon’s brain a ban on drag shows on public property is an attack on drag. Now we assume Mr. Bacon can read. He’s in movies. He memorizes lines and we’re pretty sure that would mean he reads the script. So, why the outrage? Have drag shows been banned entirely in Tenn? Nope. Still legal. People can still go. But that doesn’t get people fired up. You have to pretend to be stupid to get people to donate and that’s what Kevin Bacon is doing here. Using fake stupid to fool the masses. This is the newest tactic in politics. Pretend you are SO stupid you don’t understand what the law actually says. Just make shit up and get people riled up over a thing that exists only in your imagination. The fake stupid technique is still being used for great effect in Florida. The state of Florida said they didn’t want little kids to bet exposed to sex “education” classes, because they are children. That was somehow turned into the ‘Don’t say gay’ law. People pretended to be stupid. As if they lost the ability to read the actual law. Nope. They just invented “don’t say gay!” Florida hates gay people! And their fake narrative gained traction. Now here we go again with the ‘Attack on drag’! Kevin Bacon is pretending to be stupid and is racing to defend something that isn’t under attack. Drag. You want to see a drag show? Go for it. But that drag show is going to need to be in a club. It’s not going to be in public library or a school. We’ll explain why for the fake stupid people: The KIDS! Parents don’t want their little children exposed to drag shows. That’s it. The sexual nature of drag shows is inappropriate for children. What part of that is so difficult? It’s not. It’s not difficult to understand at all. You’re only hope is to pretend to be so stupid you don’t understand. Most people are fine with drag shows when they are attended by grown-ups. They don’t give two shits what adults do. You want to do drag? Go for it. Have a great show. But once you include kids? Nope. That’s where the line is drawn. It’s not hard to understand. You have to be an honest to goodness idiot to not get that. Or you’re like Kevin Bacon and you’re using fake stupid to fool the masses.
