Happy Fourth of July, U.S.A!
Sure, we’re not perfect, but that’s because people aren’t perfect. However, the American idea of freedom and self governance is still the best there is, and we are celebrating that today!!!
Hollywood, in all it’s isolated entitlement, often likes to show the “dark side” of American history and the military. And, yes, there are plenty of sides to every story. Yet, we should also be able to hold up our flag and be glad and just shout U.S.A.
The “No Retreat” scene from The Patriot
Don’t care what the critics have said about “white washing” history here, it is just so awesome to see Benjamin grabbing that flag and making sure we “hold the line!”
The final scene from Sands of Iwo Jima
I first watched this with my dad and grandpa. Photo perfect historic reenactment, bravery, patriotism, a realizing the tragic self sacrifice that followed. This one still holds up today!
“All right, saddle up! Let’s get back in the war!”
George C. Scott’s Speech in Patton
You HAVE to include this one. This one has been made fun of, parodied and ripped off so much, I think we’ve forgotten how cool the original famous scene is. If you haven’t seen Patton, you need to sit down for this entire film. It will give it context and make it more worthwhile.
Is it over-the-top? Yup! Is it rough and vile! Most definitely. Is it violent and dark? Oh, yeah!. But is it also soooo epic! I mean, it is Nazis we’re going up against!
“All right, you sons of bitches. You know how I feel.”
We shouldn’t always have to care if things historically neutral or politically correct. Americans need to be able to celebrate and love our nation and what it stands for.
Happy Independence Day, everyone…get out there and celebrate!
