I realize I rarely if ever feature female singers or bands in my music posts, but that doesn’t man I don’t have some favorite tunes by the “girls.”
I do tend to gravitate off the beaten path, and thought I would take you with me to see if you remember these cool, feelin’ good songs for your summer enjoyment:
“They Don’t Know” by Tracey Ullman
Ullman is one funny, smart and talented gal, but I really wish she kept up her musical career more. I loved her cute and campy retro sound, like her biggest hit from 1983.
“Going Down to Liverpool” by The Bangles
The Bangles were a really fun band, and they did so much more than “Walk Like an Egyptian” or “Manic Monday.” Take this sing-a-long coolness, complete with a video featuring the great Leonard Nimoy!
“Summertime” by The Sundays
Bristol band The Sundays are likely best known for “Here’s Where The Story Ends,” also a nice song, but their single from 1997 is one to be enjoyed by the pool on a road trip.
“Feed the Tree” Belly
This Belly song landed in the early 90s, and really defined the alt rock sound of the decade for me. I still crank it when I hear in on the radio. I think I remember the title being their way of saying “be there until I die” which is kinda sweet.
“Hear” by Moonpools & Caterpillars
This is one of those songs you might have heard pieces of, but didn’t know the name of the song or the band. It’s one of those earworms. I always liked the vibe of Moonpools & Caterpillars. Even their video had a cute little eerie nostalgia with shout out to David Lynch.
There’s still some time to find a way to chill this summer. I picked some tunes for you, get out and enjoy!
