Here’s the latest trailer for Wonka. Yes, we’re getting another spin on the Willie Wonka story. This time it’s a (another) prequel to the beloved Roald Dahl classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This re-telling or re-imagining seems to have chance for success. The filmmakers appear to be paying quite a bit of homage to the original 1971 flick in terms of costumes and art design. Which we give them all the credit in the world for. Just putting that out there. Now for the fun part: The Oompa Loompa played by Hugh Grant that steals the show. Just runs away with the entire trailer for Wonka. Every time this guy comes on screen it’s a home run. Granted, it’s just a trailer. But damn, if it isn’t funny as all hell.
We’ll just say it: How about a Willie Wonka and Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa movie? A buddy comedy. An ‘Odd Couple’ set in a chocolate factory. Just do that. Can we make that happen? It’s right there. Staring us right in the face. Crazy, zany Willie Wonka is forced to deal with is uptight, anal retentive best friend the Oompa Loompa in order to save the day. It would be a welcome change of pace. How many times are we going to watch Wonka ‘learn’ some bullshit about seeing life through the eyes of a child? How many more of those movies can they do? And are these all in the same universe? Did Willie Wonka have multiple life changing encounters where he learned a life lesson from a kid? And what… he forgets what he just learned the instant they leave? It’s disturbing if you think about it. So, let’s change it up. Just give us the Willie Wonka and the Oompa Loompa movie. It’s worth a shot. Until then, here’s Willie learning about some shit through the eyes of a child. Oh. And the Oompa Loompa is the best thing.
