Hold on for a moment. Just had to gather my thoughts after watching this clip. Here’s the English trailer for The Boy and The Heron from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Reviewers are using words like ‘masterpiece’ to describe this one and so far, I’m right there with them. Just watching the trailer blew me away. This is art. This is what animation looks like. Or at least looks like when it’s done by someone who genuinely cares about the craft. There is so much hand drawn animation in the just this clip it boggles the mind! And the camera moves… just gorgeous. We cannot wait to see The Boy and The Heron on the big screen. And how about that list of voice actors! That’s not too shabby either. Lots of big-name stars coming back to work for Studio Ghibli.
The Boy and the Heron is based on the novel ‘How do you live?’ It follows a 15-year-old boy named Junichi Honda, nicknamed Koperu, and his uncle as the youth deals with spiritual growth, poverty, and the overall experience as human beings. So, it’s not Buzz Lightyear. It’s a little deeper. However, Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki have taken on subject matter like this in the past with truly wonderful films. We’re very much looking forward to The Boy and the Heron. It hits theaters nationwide on December 8th.
I cannot wait for this one!!
