Welcome to the big robot show letdown. Here’s the highlights from IREX 2023. It’s the largest robotics exhibition in Japan. Sounds exciting huh? Japan and robots? It should be! Now with the rise of artificial intelligence, we’re all thinking we’re gonna see some legit developments in the world of robotics. Well… not so much. Take a look at the video and you’ll be saying ‘that’s it?’ just like us.
There has to be more stuff we’re not seeing. There’s no way that this is the best that Japan has to offer. These are the best robots in Japan? No way. And something else that occured to me as I watched this video: What is the battery life like? How long do these things run on a single charge? It’s a piece of info that most robot videos just fail to address. Is anyone impressed with a robot that can walk slowly 10 feet and lift a half-empty garbage bag? No. Not really.
Maybe we should all breathe a big sigh of relief that the robots from Terminator are nowhere to be found. And until they solve the power issues they’ll probably never happen. That’s a good thing. So. if you’re keeping track at home, it’s no terminators and no R2-D2’s at this year’s robot exhibition in Japan.
