This just in from our WTF dept. A statue of Thomas Jefferson was removed from NYC city hall after 187 years. You read that correctly. A statue if the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence was removed from NYC. This is disturbing on so many levels. First? It’s Thomas Jefferson. That dude is key in our nation’s history. We might not have an America to even bitch about without this dude. So, shut the fuck up. Second? We missed this story! This happened in 2021! WTF?! It must’ve been a busy news day to have this giant story slip under the radar.
And that’s what they want. To make all these changes quietly. So, you don’t notice until it’s over. Evidently the people asking for the statue wanted it to be done in secret! From the New York Post: ‘Keri Butler, executive director of the Public Design Commission that voted to banish the statue, at first tried to block the press from witnessing its removal. Butler relented after members of the mayor’s office and City Council intervened.’
This is infuriating. Does anyone else remember being told this wouldn’t happen? Remember that BS? Well, here we are. The internet remembers.
