Yes, this ‘trailer’ for J.R.R. Tolkiens ‘The Children of Hurin’ was made with A.I. You’re correct. That, however, is the issue. That’s the point I’d like to discuss. This ‘trailer’ is just the tip of the iceberg. As fan of Tolkien, I’m pretty much disgusted with what Amazon has done. I find their Rings of Power show to be insultingly bad. All the way around. Actually, the CGI isn’t horrible. I will say that. Side note: Tolkien’s Silmarillion must drive studio heads crazy. How many fantastic movies are in that book? The Children of Hurin would be epic! The problem begins when the source material goes through the ‘modern storytelling machine’. It gets ruined. That’s why this trailer for The Children of Hurin is so important. It is a glimpse of things to come. You are in charge of the adaptation.
Sooner than you think, AI will be able to move past trailers. You’ll be able to make your own movie. Want to see John Wayne as Gandalf? Just scroll down and click ‘new actor’ and click ‘Gandalf’ and select ‘John Wayne’ or ‘Pee Wee Herman’. The choice is yours. As A.I. gets faster and faster and is able to render in HD video, you won’t have to wait long at all. You won’t need Hollywood and their crap adaptation. You’ll make your own.
This is already happening with music. People aren’t just creating playlists anymore. They are creating music via A.I. Movies will be next. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say, I want to see the A.I. version of The Children of Hurin way more than anything Amazon puts out. I also have to imagine Tolkien would be horrified. A machine making art about elves and epic battles of good vs evil. We live in interesting times. Buckle up.
