The Rings of Power cancellation talk heats up. Good!

It’s time for Amazon to come to grips with the reality that Rings of Power has been a failure. Season two of the show hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. Variety calls the effort ‘a boring slog’. The Guardian says it ‘failed to spin streaming gold’. Both of those outlets are being kind. Rings of Power is far from the success that Amazon needed it to be. So, let’s discuss all the cancellation talk and how that’s a really good thing. There is still an opportunity for Amazon with Rings of Power.

Here’s what Amazon should do with Rings of Power. Cancel it. Then start over with new writers. It’s that simple. You still own the rights to the appendices. You still own the costumes and the sets. You still have the CGI companies. Your problem, Amazon, is the writing. It’s not youtubers or toxic anything. It’s shitty story telling.

Cancelling Rings of Power would get Amazon back in the good graces of legions of fans around the world. Put out a press release that says: ‘You spoke, and we listened. We love Tolkien and Middle Earth so much we want to get it right. The New Rings of Power will premiere in 2026.’ Some shit like that. Then, the real excitement would begin. And you still could save some of your gigantic investment.

Putting the Rings of Power out of its misery would be a breath of fresh air. Then, in typical TV fashion, they just start over and pretend the first bit never happened.

Here’s the critical drinker with his take.
