Yesterday was Tom Petty’s Birthday. He would have been celebrating 74 years of spins around the sun. Now before we get too maudlin and bummed out, it’s worth noting that Mr. Petty still has many surprises in store for us. There is a re-release of the documentary “Heartbreakers Beach Party” and new music with the deluxe edition of “Long After Dark” album. Pretty good for dead guy!
The timing of these releases was a fantastic decision by the Petty family or estate… or the Heartbreakers. Whoever did it? Great call. It’s a cool thing to have all this awesome new stuff on a day that could be a real bummer. Tom’s catalogue is already gigantic and I’m happy to see it still getting bigger. He is missed.
