Joe Rogan just announced that he will have the Donald on his show, the Joe Rogan Experience. Now this is a really big deal. Of course, the media is losing their minds. Let’s examine what this all could mean. The episode airs on Friday Oct. 25th. Anything could happen. That’s why it’s probably not a great idea for the Donald.
Now to be fair, I’m not sure this helps the Donald that much in the grand scheme of things. Are there that many undecided voters? Are they Joe Rogan fans? Does the Donald think he can peel off a sizable chunk of Kamala supporters? These are the big questions. Rogan does have a gigantic audience and it certainly feels like good match.
Rogan certainly has a legit beef with the legacy media. Remember this classic from CNN?
Here’s my concern. And it’s best laid out in this post from Jordan Peterson.
It feels like that is the expectation from many. Grill him good and see what’s there. For 3 hours on a podcast for tens of millions of people. Now I certainly don’t want a puff piece from Rogan, but I also don’t want a fight between Joe and the Donald. Does Joe go into this interview with a “I’m going to shock the world by being super tough on the Donald” mentality?
Have you ever seen Joe Rogan get confrontational? Ask Carlos Mencia how that worked out. Joe can be a pitbull. It’s awesome. Guess who else can be a pitbull? The Donald. In a 3 hour interview, a fight is almost guaranteed to break out at some point. A disagreement that both guys won’t want to back down from. And that, kids is when the legacy media will take that clip and run with it around the clock. That’s what the Donald’s people should be thinking about.
Both Rogan and the Donald are very smart guys. They’re both tough guys too. We’ll see who takes the high road and acquiesces first during the inevitable disagreements. We’ll all find out what happens on the Joe Rogan Experience with the Donald on Oct. 25. At this stage of the campaign, I’m not sure the risk is worth it. Too many wild cards. We shall see.
