How to train your dragon – Trailer & of course, controversy.

So, let’s do good news, bad news. Good news first. There’s a new live action version of How to train your dragon. We have the trailer. After watching the clip you’ll agree that it almost looks like a shot for shot reproduction of the 2010 animated version. Does that seem like a quick turnaround for a live action? Seems like there should be a 25-year limit. Oh well, here’s the trailer, then we’ll get to the other news.

See? Pretty crazy right? Shot for frigging shot! The whole crew is there. The CGI looks fantastic!

So, what’s the big deal? Where’s the controversy? Well, it all has to do with Astrid. The filmmakers and studio decided to go down the DEI route. … of course.

So, instead of going to watch a remake of delightful children’s movie with very little to worry about, parents can all look forward to a discussion about race, racism and race relations! Huzzah! What a joy! Now if this your kid’s introduction to how to train your dragon? Not a problem. Your sit down will wait until they see the original. That is the task that movie makers have given you.

Before you see the movie, you need to come up with what you’re going to tell your kid when they ask: ‘Why did they change Astrid?” So, be ready. In my opinion you should keep it short. Something like ‘the original Astrid wanted too much money.’ Or “The original Astrid joined the Space Force. She’s a true American hero’ Or finally “She works for Trump now! She wasn’t available!” Either way, Sony decided you should have this chat about race with your kids. And Hollywood knows best!
