How bad was Joe Bidens pardon of Hunter? It was so bad even the Daily Show has turned on Joe. Host Jon Stewart had a field day mocking the decision of the Biden family patriarch to the give Hunter the proverbial ‘Get out if Jail free’ card. And good for Stewart for basing his monologue in reality. That’s a good recipe for building street cred. Now the Daily Show can show clips of that time they made fun of that ridiculous pardon. Nice.

Here’s the problem, though. Joe did issue the pardon. It does forgive Hunter for any and all crimes going back to 2014. It’s insane. Sure, it is funny. However, the laughs will stop and sadly the abuse of the legal system and blanket pardons will march merrily on. Joe has set a horrible precedent. One monologue on The Daily Show isn’t going to cut it. We depend on the rule of law as a nation. We just can’t have multi-national conflicts and millions of dollars floating into bank accounts without consequences. There may have been a pardon and Hunter may stay out of jail, but this can’t be the end of it. One funny monologue on the daily show from Jon Stewart can’t be the end of the story. It’s funny. But it’s just a start.
