At one point I may have been on the fence about this new Lord of the Rings movie, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’. Not anymore. Bring it. Hell, give me a 3-movie arc if you want. I’ll watch. In fact, I’ll look forward to it. Why? Well, it’s simple: In a world occupied by shitty movies and storytelling, I think we can rely on Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis to deliver some cinema that doesn’t take a giant dump on the source material and actually make sense.
Yes, The Hunt for Gollum is taken from the lord of the ring’s appendices. Yes, it’s a ‘thin’ plot as we say in the writing game. Guess what? I don’t care. So many things like Disney Star Wars and Amazon’s Rings of Power suck so incredibly hard, that I would watch ‘Gollum learns to fish and then takes a dump’. IF Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis were at the helm.
So, bring it. Bring on all the cameos. Bring on the CGI. Bring on the de-ageing software.
Bring on The Hunt for Gollum. Everything else is trash. At this point, watching Serkis as Gollum run from Orcs for a couple of movies will be like drinking water in the desert. Now we just have to wait till 2026 and I’m already feeling parched.
