Assassins Creed Shadows. The PR nightmare that just keeps giving.

It’s a PR nightmare. It’s a gaming nightmare. It’s a studio nightmare. Thank goodness it’s kind of funny. The internet is reacting to the release of Assassins Creed Shadows, and they did not disappoint. Here’s a quick recap just in case you’re new. Assassins Creed is a solid franchise. All the games are based on different historical eras. You’re an Assassin. Tada! Now with Assassins Creed Shadows, it’s feudal Japan…and not only are you an Assassin, you’re also a person of color and… gay. Of course. It’ gaming in 2025. What the what are the developers thinking? Are they wrapped up in the “no such thing as bad press” fallacy?

Things are not looking good for Assassins Creed Shadows. How bad is it for PR? They supposedly have teams of lawyers on standby… for a video game. How are you not supposed to make fun of THAT?!

Thankfully the game didn’t start and international incident. Oh wait… it did. The Japanese Government stepped in!

Now is probably a good time to remind everyone about the controversy over the lead character of Yasuke. Now that dude did exist evidently. There was a guy by that name back in the olden days. But let’s just say someone decided to play around with things.

The game reportedly has some problems… but it’s also perfect. LOL! So…. the problems make it perfect? How do the problems do that?

So, let’s see how this Assassins Creed Shadows controversy plays out. It’s day one of the release. This is traditionally the day when studios flood the zone with positive reviews. That wears off pretty quickly. Disney Star Wars anyone?

And remember kids: When you don’t have something nice to say about the story or the game… talk about the graphics.
