Did Ubisoft spend $2.1M on Influencers for Assassins Creed Shadows?

There is a story making the rounds on the internet. Supposedly Ubisoft paid social media influencers 2.1 million dollars to secure the launch of Assassins Creed: Shadows. We’ve got some reaction for you. And some thoughts. First? Let’s check in with Asmongold.

Now here’s my two cents. And I’m not getting paid. Not even two cents. This is all free!

This was a good investment for Ubisoft. They already spent hundreds of millions on AC: Shadows. Why not throw a couple more million in there to try and stack the deck? Totally get it. Especially when you think the game is going to tank.

It’s fiendishly simple too. Just pay the ‘cool kids’ to pretend to like something and watch the lemmings follow. That’s why they’re called Influencers. They have influence. But did it work? How’s Ubisoft doing?

Doh! Oh well. Ubisoft may have paid influencers to pretend to like Assassins Creed: Shadows. But at least that’s just a video game. Hope no one ever tries this tactic with something important, like… politics… what?!
