We’re saying goodbye to George Wendt. The actor who rose to fame as Norm from the TV show “Cheers”. I’ll keep this short, so we can get to the clips. That’s the good stuff. So, here’s what I can tell you about George Wendt, Norm and Cheers: I was lucky enough to write on shows with two guys who worked on Cheers. They were on that show for years. One of my buddies spent time in the writer’s room whose sole purpose was to write the Norm entrance lines. “It’s a dog-eat-dog world and I’m wearing milk bone underwear.” Those lines. Anyway, everyone loved George. They spoke very highly of the entire cast (with one exception) but George Wendt was a pleasure to be around.
That’s what really matters at the end of the day. Were you loved? And George and Norm were. Let’s watch some clips and laugh now! Here’s some great moments from George Wendt as Norm on Cheers.
Michael…
The first couple of seasons of “Cheers” was as good as television got.
Great writing and good actors made for some of the most hilarious moments.
George Wendt helped make it so.
I am not in showbiz and I was quite young during those early seasons, but it always seemed to me the cast had a fun time working together and at times, that really was conveyed to the viewers.
Genuine laughs cannot be faked.
Maybe one of the best lines ever was uttered by George Wendt upon entering the bar one morning/day/evening and I paraphrase;
“It’s a dog eat dog world and I am wearing Milk-Bone underwear.”
No one else but George could have delivered that line and make it as funny as it was.
Rest in Peace, George
Yeah. From everything I’ve heard it was one of those dream gigs. Everyone was fun. good show!
I think my favorite opener of his went something like “What’s shakin’ Norm?”
“All four cheeks and a couple of chins.”
Ha! That’s a good one. Forgot about that one.
