Zelda casting controversy. Real or almost certainly fake?

Well, what have we here? It’s a casting rumor that has social media in a tizzy! Here’s the rumor that’s almost certainly fake. Trans actor Hunter Schafer is being eyed to play Zelda in the live action Legend of Zelda movie! What in the world is (not) going on?

Here’s why I think this is giant nothing. Nintendo. That’s why. Nintendo owns the rights to Zelda and they have seen firsthand how Hollywood screws them over. Once upon a time there was a live action Mario movie and Nintendo let Hollywood call the shots. It was a turd of a movie. Then, years later? Nintendo dug in their heels and did a new animated movie, and it destroyed at the box office.

Nintendo also witnesses the Sonic the Hedgehog redesign fiasco. And when the studio relented and made Sonic look more like Sonic? That live action CGI Hybrid movie was a huge success! So, I don’t think Nintendo is too hyped at having a trans actor play Zelda.

Now, does Hunter Schafer kind of look like Zelda? Sure. Guess what though? Hunter comes with baggage. Controversial baggage. That’s no bueno at the box office with a bunch of Zelda fans. Not all. But a lot. Enough to tank a movie.

And another key thing to remember about this June (pride month) surprise? We’re talking about Hollywood and LA. A town riddled with blondes that could play Zelda. Blondes with ZERO controversy.

Good luck with the Zelda rumored casting news. This feels just about as fake as fake can be. Hollwood is still riddled with blonde smoke shows that can play Zelda. Beware of click bait. Now hear me out. Pedro Pascal as Link. Huh? Huh? Anyone?
