Israel just kneecapped Iran’s nuke program. Are we supposed to act like we’re not relieved?

This post is filed under “politics” but it seems more like a ‘life or death’ thing. Just saying. Late last night Israel launched a series of strikes aimed at Iran’s Nuclear program and military leadership. Looks like the mission to stop Iran’s nuclear program was accomplished. Israel didn’t go after civilians. They went after the nuke program and the people who were in charge of the nuke program. Are we not supposed to have a sense of relief over this?

No one has a beef with the people of Iran. The problem is with the leadership. The leadership of Iran has track record of not being the nicest people in the world. And when the afore mentioned leadership starts talking about wanting your country destroyed, then goes on the pursue nukes? Come on. What else are you going to do?

Israel’s stated objective was to preemptively neutralize Iran’s advancing nuclear program, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a “clear and present danger” to Israel’s survival, citing Iran’s uranium enrichment to 60% purity, close to weapons-grade levels. The operation killed several senior Iranian military figures, including Major General Hossein Salami, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, and senior commander Gholam Ali Rashid, according to Israeli claims and some Iranian sources. Nuclear scientists Fereydoon Abbasi and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi were also reported killed.

The internet a buzzing with people flipping out over a potential WW3 but I just don’t have that level of concern. And maybe the events of last night will bring Iran back to the negotiation table. But again, they can’t be allowed to have nukes. Just get that thought out of your head. Iran would have to have a drastic leadership change and pretty much be the nicest people on the planet for about a century before I’d be close to comfortable with them having nukes.

Today is a good reminder that the world is a scary place. Lots of people are playing for keeps and taking threats very seriously. As they should!

Am I happy that people are dead? No. Do I want WW3? Also no. Am I relieved that Iran doesn’t have a nuke? Yes. I won’t pretend I’m not.

  1. Allen Baker says:

The moment Iran had nuclear weapons capability, they would have waited approximately 8 seconds before they nuked Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.
Mutually Assured Destruction does not factor in with the radical islamic leadership of Iran.
They can never have nuclear capable first strike ability.

That’s how I see it too. Well said!
