If you’re a Billie Joel fan, or just music fan, you’re probably interested in his documentary on HBO. It’s a 2-part film called “Billie Joel: And So It Goes”. The flick looks incredible! Billie Joel and a bunch of rock stars talking about music and the history and inspiration for songs! Hell yeah. Here’s the troubling part though: It looks as if there’s a chunk in the doc that’s going to be an embarrassment for Billie Joel and who knows what the fallout will be with his fans.
Evidently in the film Joel gets into politics, and the ‘very fine people’ hoax is repeated. Turn out Billie Joel doesn’t like Trump and that has to do with the ‘Very fine people’ moment that has been grossly edited to stray far from reality. Trump DID condemn the bad guys when you look at the very next moments of the sound bite. But people like to leave that part out to churn up some misguided hatred. And it looks like they got Billie Joel with the disinformation campaign. Sad. And embarrassing for Joel.
Once again Billie Joel gets used by people who know better. How many people think that the producers knew about the edited clip and ran with it anyway? Just sad.
Billboard knows it’s a lie. The producers of the doc know it’s a lie, but they hang Billie Joel out to dry. There’s a song in there somewhere.
