Here’s some info on the new Unitree robot, A2. They call it Stellar Hunter, and they also say it was engineered for industrial applications. Okay. Sure. Let’s take a look at some of the wonderful industrial applications from the promotional video.
Huh. Look at that. A2 is like a robot dog. Lucky for us because we ran out of dogs ages ago. Where on earth could we find a dog nowadays? We certainly need an industrial application robot to replace friendly search and rescue dogs.
Now back to our commentary that I will try to keep sarcasm free.
This thing is terrifying. To pretend that this is something other than a mobile killing machine is an insult to everyone with a brain. What are the industrial applications beyond being a mobile platform? Can it weld? Clean things? Can it help around the house or the garden? Not so much.
Well, what do you know? Lookie here! Not sure what company this is, but the pic is from 2024. Huh. What are the odds that someone was thinking along these ‘industrial’ lines?
They ought to just admit what it’s for and put a large pair of snapping mechanical jaws on it full of sharp metal teeth and paint some eyes on it for effect.
In an X post above, a commenter doesn’t believe it can withstand some decent rifle ammunition. The thing is, with a speed of 5 meters per second and ability to easily change direction as we see, it’ll be hard to hit. A strong net thrown in its path to entagle it followed by a couple of men with 6-LB mauls going to work on it might be more effective. The version with the mounted weapon is the real creep-show. I only bring it up because one of those robots running around off-leash on AI could really go nutzo.
Why not a fun version with a “Mick” tiger face? It’s implied in the first twit, looks like a camping scenario. Could have a Whiskey dispenser, built-in cigar dispenser, whatever is called for. Or maybe it’s carrying frst aid supplies who knows. LOL just make people happy. No money in that, only in military stuff.
I like the way you think!
