As a writer, I’m rooting for the movie ‘Marty Supreme’ and I’ll tell you why: Hollywood is drowning in tired crap. Granted, most of the shit they did to themselves but we’ll get to that in a bit. Let’s watch the trailer for Marty Supreme with Timothy Chalamet.
This is a fictious look at a real guy and his life, Marty Riesman. He was a 5 time a five-time bronze medalist at the World Table Tennis Championships who died in 2012. Just so you know.
Here’s why I have my fingers crossed for this Marty Supreme movie: Someone in the filmmaking biz needs to put up a win. Movies are expensive as hell to make and they’re expensive as hell to watch in the theater. The whole industry will move to streaming soon IF people can’t go to the movies and have a good time. The world doesn’t have to be at risk of an alien invasion every other month. I love super hero movies but I also love variety. That’s where Marty Supreme could step in. Guy has a big dream, people say he’s crazy. He overcomes and gets the girl. Boom. It’s not rocket science but it’s not easy to do well either.
Side note: Get used to the historical figure bio-pic. Any movie that’s set before cell phones has a huge dramatic advantage. Imaging all the movies problems that could have been solved with a text or a quick call. Cell phones are the death of dramatic tension. They make good stories very challenging to tell.
So, good luck to the Marty Supreme movie. It opens this Christmas. And Hollywood sure could use a hit.
This looks awesome. Imagine that? Being entertained instead of radically stimulated for a change. I’ll be there with my Large Slushie in hand.
Right!? What are the odds?! LOL! A movie that just looks entertaining!
