Sunday Jams – Paul Carrack

Who is Paul Carrack, you ask? Only one of the best artists you heard but never heard of. Every decade since the 70s had a Paul Carrack-sung hit. Here’s a few that will make you say, “oh yeah! I didn’t know it was that guy!”

You probably heard this on your parents’ AM radio dial on a Sunday drive.

This probably played between “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Smokin’ in the Boys Room”.

Let’s jump a decade to the early 80s. Squeeze, the fun, upbeat and hot new wave band, featured him in one of their hits. That’s weird considering the duo who made up the core of Squeeze were both talented singer/songwriters, but whatever. Enjoy this one.

If you were like me, you were more interested in that gorgeous blond who did little more than look gorgeous and say “woo” in the background.

A couple of years later, with Genesis’ huge commercial success, Mike Rutherford struck out with his own solo project – Mike and the Mechanics. Guess who did some vocals with the band? Yep, our buddy, Paul.

Who better than Carrack to sing this beautiful homage to Rutherford’s troubled but intimate relationship with his father.

Finally, by the late 80s, Carrack put his own name to his music with this incredible solo album.

By the way, you can track Carracks age by his receding hairline like the rings of a tree.

I hope you love this Sunday Jams as much as I did.

Gordon, Thank you for doing a Sunday Jams on Paul Carrack. He’s such a great artist. Between How Long with Ace to Tempted with Squeeze and his stint with Mike and the Mechanics as well as his own albums like One Good Reason and Groove Approved (both really great albums) it’s a wonderful testament to his talent. You’ve got great taste. Thanks again!
