Just found out about Star Trek Day! How about that? Sept. 8th is Star Trek Day because that’s the anniversary of the shows premiere back in 1966! Wow! Okay, very cool. If Star Wars has May the 4th, then Star Trek can have a day too, dammit! I consider myself a fan of Star Trek. Well, some of Star Trek. The franchise has gone to shit and it’s a shame. But let’s talk more about the Star Trek we like!

The OG! Kirk, Spock and the whole crew. This show had it all. Action, Adventure, great Sci Fi ideas and even some romance. The premise and writing were so strong, it survived a lack of special effects. The show was better than the technology of the time. Amazing. Big shout out to Lucy and Desi for making the OG Star Trek happen. And that cast that brought the great scripts to life.

Star Trek: The Next Generation. Again. Solid writing. Smart production. Great move to go straight for syndication and buy yourself some freedom as to a production schedule. Very wise. Some stumbles in the early seasons but they eventually figured it out. Great show. Loved STTNG.

Deep Space Nine… WTF was this show? I don’t watch Star Trek to see a space port. I want to explore. This show was Babylon 5 with a bigger budget. Or… was it the other way around? Hmmmm? I’ve heard that Deep Space Nine wasn’t so original… Just saying. Anyway. Good cast. They made the most of what they had to deal with. Blah. Shout out to my friend Cecily who played Quarks mom. She loved what Star Trek gave her. She really did.

Voyager. Oof. Solid Cast. Swing and a miss for most episodes. Some strong elements. But overall, highly skipable.

Enterprise? Was that the prequel series? Did that happen? Seemed like a good idea. I was kind of checked out after the Voyager meh.

Every show since… oof. Sad and embarrassing. Every clip that I see online is cringy. Everyone is a smart ass. Everyone is sassy. Everything feels so completely devoid of any kind of basic reality or emotion. I’m passing on all of it. Life is short. Can’t waste my time. Hint to Paramount: Hire better writers. Maybe some writers who have been in the military and have seen combat. Some people who know command structure and what’s at stake when you’re out on a mission, surrounded by God only knows what.

The best Star Trek in recent memory? This short film that we showcased here when it was released. This is much watch. Happy Star Trek Day! Live Long and Prosper.
