Let’s shut the gates to America. Just lock the door for a good long while. Why would I say such a thing? Well, funny you should ask. I have many reasons!
We’ll have figure out a future with far less people any way you slice it. (Unless America is conquered by some other country). The west is already facing a population collapse. There aren’t enough births to replace the deaths.
It’s a depressing notion, but here we are. This is reality. Now comes phase 2 of the ‘close it all down’ argument. What do we want America to look like in the not-too-distant future? Are we cool with the diversity we already have? If not? We should think about what we want more of and what we want less of. Otherwise, we’re leaving things open for all kinds of strange twists of fate. We probably want to figure it out.
There are tens of millions of people already living in the US and we can’t be certain that they live here for any other reason than the idea of “a better life”. What does that mean beyond food and money? Do they love the country and its ideals? Do they love the thing that made all this prosperity happen? I don’t know. Tens of millions of people just started showing up decades ago and we just now started to try to contain it.
In 2018 a Yale study showed more than 16 million illegals. The number is probably closer to 22 Million:

Then factor in the Biden years and the open border policy. Some reports say that could be another 15 to 20 million. Who are they? We don’t know! But we’re talking about around 40 million people… now let’s toss in the 55 million VISAs. How many overstays? It’s crazy!

The population of the US is around 360 million. Maybe 100 million shouldn’t be here. And you’re not going to round up tens of millions of people. I don’t care who you think you are. Good luck with that. So here’s my proposal: Shut it all down. No new people in America. Final answer. Deport as many as we can and let the other tens of millions assimilate. Hopefully they will learn to love this country and what makes America special.
Every western counrty is going to need AI. Robots. Whatever tech to replace the people who die. We want people in this nation who share our ideals. We can’t just welcome every mystery person who shows up. That’s madness. The future is barreling at us at breakneck speed. We might as well have some say in what it looks like.
