Our dogs are family members and feeding them healthy food and snacks is as important for them as it is for us. Making food free of additives and chemicals, food that nourishes and improves health is important for humans and our animal friends. This is a basic recipe that can be tailored to your pups needs and likes. I make these biscuits with peanut butter but you can use pumpkin or sweet potato as well. Here’s how to make it:
Dog biscuits
makes 18 medium size biscuits
2 1/4 cups spelt flour (whole wheat, some oat or barley flour also works)
1/3 c coconut oil
1 egg lightly beaten
1/2 c plain greek yogurt
1/4 c natural unsweetened peanut butter (pumpkin puree or sweet potato)
1 tsp bone meal (optional)
2 tbs raw honey
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch sea salt

Mix all ingredients into a cohesive dough. Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll or pat out the dough to approximately 1/4 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut whatever shape you like. Bake until golden brown approximately 20 minutes. For crisp cookies turn off the oven and leave in the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes. Note: the dough should be soft but not sticky, if its too wet add a little more flour a tsp at a time.
