Let’s get an update from the world of Cancel Culture! A look at the latest actions and spin! Frankly I have very little patience for this crap and like to focus on the bigger picture. You know that boring stuff like making sure we survive as a somewhat polite, law-abiding society. But what can ya do? Some days you just have to pick up a paddle and start rowing. We’ll direct the ships heading later.
The media continues to hype up the ‘cancelation’ of Jimmy Kimmel for a ‘joke’. However, I still maintain that this is Disney making a business decision. I would also bet that if Kimmel apologized, he’d be on the air tonight!
Now let’s address the 500-pound gorilla in the room: The complete disingenuousness of the whole fake cancel culture/civility argument. It’s boring. The very same people who are running to Kimmel’s defense are the same people who called for the cancellation (or worse) of people on the right.
We could give example after example.
So, the current situation has reached a tipping point. Charlie Kirk is dead. The ultimate cancel of cancel culture. That’s where our focus should be. Asking questions about how this assassination happened, is healthy and productive. I believe in free speech. I also believe that people should be alive to speak. So, let’s not get bent out of shape about Disney making a business decision and please don’t expect me to care. I am focused on bigger things like public education or rather the lack of it. Sadly, too many people think that violence is their answer.
The kind of doublethink necessary to simultaneously believe that “this is Disney making a business decision” and “that if Kimmel apologized, he’d be on the air tonight” is impressive. You realize those are two opposite statements, right?
The facts are that Disney and other broadcasting partners made a business decision to not cancel but suspend Kimmel’s show. His ratings are the worst and he has lost a significant amount of ad revenue so his show was hanging by a thread to begin with. His liberal arrogance cut that last strand. Having a tv show is a privilege not a right. Kimmel forgot that as well as how to be funny. Free Speech doesn’t mean free from consequences. I found it to be exceeding rude for you to critize Michael Loftus’s opinion. Most of us adults call it common sense and Michael puts it out here on a daily basis in the most honest ,well researched articles and opinions that you will find anywhere. It’s a shame you can’t appreciate that Harry.
There was barely any organic outrage towards Kimmel’s comments that would make suspending his show a better business decision than it was before he made those comments. Why would there be? He said MAGA people were arguing that Tyler Robinson wasn’t MAGA which they were. Whether or not you think they’re right, it’s not a lie. The FCC pressured ABC to suspend Kimmel in order to get approval for Disney’s upcoming merger. Those are the facts. It’s not being hidden; the head of the FCC is bragging about it on podcasts.
To your second point, I agree there should be consequences to speech. Consequences from the free market, not government pressure. If you really think ABC would’ve suspended Kimmel without action from the FCC, I don’t know what to tell you.
You know Harry, the people who enjoy this website and put comments on here do so in a respectful and lightheated way. We do not force our opinions down other people’s throats to make ourselves feel better or just to be a dick. No one wants to get into a winkie waving contest with you over your opinion. But you have to let us have ours without being a I’m right,You’re wrong a-hole about it. This website is a lot of fun and your attitude is bringing the vibe down. If you like to argue with people, you should go the Medias Touch community. You would fit right in there. Just my opinion.
I’ve said that the arguments being presented don’t make sense and explained why I thought so. You’ve called me an “a-hole” and a “dick.” I don’t think I’m the one bringing the vibe down
You are of course, aware of the affiliates that refused to air the show. This didn’t start at Disney. This started with affiliate station owner groups. Disney didn’t chime until late in the game. It’s a win for Disney! I’ll explain more in tomorrow’s video. Thanks for being here and disagreeing in good faith! For real.
I think he could ride out the rest of his contract for sure! 100% !
