It’s day 3 of the government shutdown. Thankfully I have enough peanut butter, guitar strings and lube to get through at least another week. Big shout out to Costco for that. Anyway, as we all watch the shitshow that is modern politics and media spin, it’s important that we all stay hydrated and entertained. That’s where the internet really shines.
Now this shutdown seems to boil down to one issue: Healthcare for Illegals. Dems say they aren’t in favor of that and aren’t trying to be sneaky. Republicans are calling BS. And they brought the receipts. Fortunately, social media is providing some smiles along the way. Let’s take a peek, shall we?

Literally the only way the policies Democrats are advocating for would lead to healthcare spending on undocumented immigrants is a very reasonable law that says hospitals receiving Medicare funds should provide emergency care to anyone who needs it and will be reimbursed by the government for this care. A recent report found that a whopping 0.4% of this emergency funding was spent on undocumented individuals, truly a crazy amount of financial mismanagement that is definitely worth shutting down the government for. If you disagree with this law, take it up with the president who signed it, Ronald Reagan.
Republicans want to cut Medicaid spending, so American citizens will get less healthcare, and they shut down the government to try and do it. It’s as simple as that.
Is this Ronald Reagan fellow still around? I’d like to give him a piece of my mind! All kidding aside. The American people have been taxed to death. We’ve got too many people getting benefits from a system they didn’t pay into. It’s unsustainable. You can either have “free stuff” or Illegal immigration. You can’t have both. When the 40 million (I’ll be conservative with this number) are back in their home countries, we can pick this convo back up. Let’s just get our military and WIC recipients paid for now.
Of the healthcare policies Republicans are trying to cut, a fraction of a percentage point of a small subsection of the funding is being spent on any form of reimbursement for emergency care only for undocumented immigrants. Why should American citizens be denied healthcare until Trump declares the immigration problem fixed when the financial impact of undocumented immigrants on these Medicare programs is negligible at best?
If it’s such a small percentage then the Dems should approve the Continuing Resolution. That spending was only meant to be temporary when the Biden Admin threw it in. Unless… they were lying about it being temporary! Will wonders never cease? I agree with you. Let’s take care of Americans before Illegals. The Dems should pass the CR.
