Why won’t Amazon cancel ‘Rings of Power’? You won’t like the answer.

I just watched a very interesting video about why Amazon won’t cancel ‘Rings of Power’. For those of you dear readers who are just catching up, the series is in production for season three. The viewership numbers are in the toilet, and we’re told that there will be two more seasons to this trainwreck. So, what the hell is going on? Rings of Power is insanely expensive, and no one is watching. Why not just cancel the thing? The video (which was really good by the way) brings up ‘Kill Fees’ as a big part of the reason.

If Amazon cancels the show, they owe the Tolkien estate money. Millions. Hmmm. Here’s the video and then I’ll chime in why the ‘kill fee’ isn’t the reason the show got renewed.

Okay, Rings of Power season one had incredibly low completion numbers. Season 2 was worse and here comes a crazy expensive season 3, with seasons 4 and 5 around the corner. You don’t keep going with show like this because you’re concerned about ‘kill fees’ in the tens of millions. That’s silly. Amazon is losing 100’s of million to make this shit show. So, no. Kill fees aren’t it.

I have 2 theories on why Amazon keeps making Rings of Power. Both are feasible.

One. Amazon thinks they’re right. They think the show is ahead of the curve and any second now the audience will discover the show isn’t a pile of dogshit (which it is) and all will be forgiven and Rings of Power will be in the TV hall of fame. Plus: The more episode you have, the better the chance for syndication. Amazon may think they can make some money back by selling the show to other outlets. HA! Good luck with that.

Two. And this is dark theory. They just want to ruin something good and pure and noble. Destruction of Tolkien for the sake of destruction. The Lord of the Rings universe is a modern myth that is full of everything one could want from mythology. It’s practically biblical. I won’t get into all of it here, but let’s just say that the works of Tolkien are a tad bit bigger than some fantasy books. It’s deeper than that. And when something like The Lord of the Rings exists and has a ‘good’ message? Someone is going to go out of their way to fuck it up. Look at what Disney has done to Star Wars and almost every fairy tale.

Stories about good vs evil have to be muddied. It’s a woke compulsion. They hate that these stories exist. So Amazon is losing a fortune on Rings of Power, and they could stop the bleeding, but they don’t. They are either crazy, or they are on a mission to destroy. Pick your poison. I still won’t be watching the show.
